Loaded Vodka feature: How Isaac Wang came up with the idea to sell gourmet goods overseas to military families and expat communities overseas.
Isaac Wang founded War Foodie just a few years ago in 2014 in San Diego, California. War Foodie is the very first monthly subscription box bringing American favorites to military and expat communities. He began his entrepreneurial journey by re-inventing the “care-package” most families and military personnel receive while overseas. Isaac wanted to make a care-package that would streamline the process for families, while also providing gourmet products and in exciting packages to make the experience fun. Isaac served in the US Navy for four years and then worked briefly at Booz Allen Hamilton. His inspiration for War Foodie came from his own experience in the Navy. He remembers the coffee being “really bad” and not having access to high quality food. Isaac’s mission at War Foodie is to assemble items that are unashamedly American and of top-notch high quality. He wanted to create a subscription box of high quality foods that would be able to reach some of the most difficult places in a consistent manner.
Some of the products War Foodie has available currently are: Coffee, Tea, Hot Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Peanut Butter, Beef Jerky, Granola and more. Isaac staffed his company with veterans who, like himself, wanted to improve the lives of soldiers and sailors. Instead of finding investors for his startup, or taking out a loan, he decided to finance his company himself. Fast-forward to today, his company is now two years old and sells to military and expat communities on a global scale. He sees a successful future for his company. He knows from experience that quality food is the key to keeping morale high for those overseas. He also knows that coffee is essentially fuel for those on duty and making good coffee could greatly improve their productivity and stamina. Donate War Foodie coffee to service members here
